Mikimoto, the 131-year-old Japanese pearl jewelry maker, has teamed up with L.A.-based jewelry label Chrome Hearts to create a limited-edition jewelry collection that blends their distinct design styles with a focus on pearls.
Speaking exclusively about this remarkable venture, Yasuhiko Hashimoto, Chief Operating Officer of Mikimoto, revealed: “By combining Mikimoto’s legacy of excellence in pearl cultivation with Chrome Hearts’ innovative design approach, we’ve created pieces that are truly unique in the luxury jewelry landscape.”
”This collaboration is, in many ways, a metaphor for modern Japan – deeply rooted in tradition yet constantly pushing boundaries. It’s about honoring our past while fearlessly embracing the future, much like the way Japan blends its rich cultural heritage with its advancements in technology and fashion,” he added.
The Mikimoto Chrome Hearts collection features 11 distinctive pieces, including safety pin brooches, charm bracelets and various earring styles, all featuring Mikimoto’s renowned Akoya and White South Sea pearls. Chrome Hearts lends its signature aesthetic through 18-karat gold and diamond accents, while four exclusive diamond and pearl necklaces, limited to two per design, represent the pinnacle of this collaboration.
Jesse Jo Stark, daughter of Chrome Hearts founder Richard Stark, shared her personal connection to the project: “My family and I have been forever collectors of Mikimoto and always admired them for their very specific aesthetic and thoughtful approach. In terms of my inspiration for this collaboration, I was very much thinking of my mother and father and wanted to represent both feminine and masculine.”
The development process spanned several years, allowing both houses to deeply understand and respect each other’s creative approaches. This careful consideration has resulted in pieces that seamlessly blend the bold character of Chrome Hearts with Mikimoto’s refined pearl expertise.
The collection will be debuted on November 8th at select Chrome Hearts locations in New York, London and Japan, as well as Mikimoto‘s flagship stores in Tokyo, New York and Hong Kong.
