Canadian-American rapper/singer Drake and his Better World Fragrance House recently unveiled Summer Mink eau de parfum, the brand’s first major fragrance launch following its successful line of luxury candles and perfume oils.
Priced at $148 USD, Summer Mink is positioned as a prestige offering. It will launch first on the brand’s website before making its way to Ulta Beauty. “We’ve been going through scents for this for quite some time,” said Matte Babel, chief brand officer of Drake’s DreamCrew. The pressure was immense for the first eau de parfum launch, with Babel noting that fragrance is “makes up the bulk of the business” for many celebrity brands.
The adventure began when Drake collaborated with perfumer Michael Carby to create Carby Musk, a signature scent designed for his personal use. This initial project eventually led to a full candle collection and a licensing partnership with Parlux in 2023.
The Summer Mink eau de parfum opens with Italian citrus and sage, a crisp yet earthy introduction. Jasmine sambac adds a floral heart before settling into vetiver and creamy musk. “Summer Mink was inspired by a yin-yang principle of fusing warm, creamy base notes with cold spices and sparkling citruses,” explained Michael Carby, the nose behind the fragrance.
The physical bottle, designed by Jon DiNapoli, reflects this contrasting philosophy. Its organic curves sit atop an angular, modernist base, creating an object that feels substantial and luxurious in the hand.
Lori Singer, president of Parlux, underscored the brand’s ambition: “We’re building a brand through Better World Fragrance House that really is all types of fragrance and scent.”
