Few actors have shaped modern film as distinctly as Nicole Kidman. Renowned for her bold choices and steadfast support of women in the industry, Kidman will receive this year’s Kering Women in Motion Prize at Cannes. The prize celebrates her career and commitment to amplifying female voices behind the camera.
“I am proud to join this list of extraordinary women who’ve received this honor before me – artists and trailblazers I deeply admire,” said the Australian superstar. “The Cannes Film Festival has been a part of my life for over 30 years and I am thrilled to add this incredible recognition to the many memories I’ve made here.”

The prize, which celebrates influential women in cinema, is marking its 10th anniversary, and Kidman’s selection reflects its mission. Kering chairman François-Henri Pinault called Kidman “a powerful illustration of what Women in Motion has been defending for a decade.” Cannes Film Festival president Iris Knobloch highlighted Kidman’s collaborations with nearly 20 female directors in recent years, calling her work a testament to the vibrancy of women in film.
Kidman’s advocacy is nothing new. In 2017, she used the press tour for Sofia Coppola’s “The Beguiled” to call for more opportunities for female filmmakers. She pledged to work with a female director every 18 months, a promise she has kept by collaborating with 19 directors since then, including Halina Reijn on “Babygirl” and Mimi Cave on “Holland.” Through her production company, Blossom Films, Kidman has backed projects directed by women, such as HBO’s “Big Little Lies.”
Festival head Thierry Frémaux praised Kidman‘s “rich filmography” and “masterful, unsettling performances,” noting how she portrays women breaking free from constraints.
The Kering Women in Motion prize, given annually since 2015, recognizes women who have made significant contributions to the film industry while advocating for greater female representation. Previous recipients include Jane Fonda, Isabelle Huppert, Michelle Yeoh, and Greta Gerwig.
The 2025 Kering Women in Motion gala ceremony will take place on May 18th during the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 13th to 24th.
