Wooyoungmi‘s Spring/Summer 2025 collection masterfully blends Korean minimalism with American sportswear, creating a unique sartorial language for the American-born Korean (ABK) demographic. Designer Woo Young Mi draws inspiration from the rich cultural tapestry of Korean immigrants in the United States, reimagining their style journey through a contemporary lens.
The collection showcases a lean silhouette reminiscent of vintage football uniforms, with high-waisted, short pants featuring knee folds and thigh padding. Baseball-inspired elements make a strong appearance, with jerseys and varsity jackets sporting a new calligraphy-based WYM logo. Woo’s clever hybridization of tailored shorts with athleisure biker shorts demonstrates her ability to merge formal and casual aesthetics seamlessly.
Woo’s attention to detail shines through in the collection’s craftsmanship. Traditional Korean decorative knots are reimagined in sleeveless button-down shirts, while the baseball whipstitch motif adorns the sides of jeans and closures of cropped jackets. The designer also incorporates lush landscape tapestries into coats, jackets, and shorts, paying homage to the Korean countryside.
The collection primarily features a neutral color palette of beiges, blues, and blacks, punctuated by bold combinations of rust and red. This restrained approach allows the innovative silhouettes and cultural references to take center stage. Crochet overlays on singlets and shorts add texture and visual interest to the ensembles.
