Self-Portrait launches its Year of the Snake campaign, bringing together legendary actress Carina Lau with an exceptional ensemble of Hong Kong cultural figures to pay homage to the golden era of Hong Kong television. The campaign is captured through the lens of photographer Feng Li.
The Lunar New Year campaign brings together an impressive cast, including Lau’s close friend Anna Ueyama, veteran actor Bowie Wu Fung, famous for his breakthrough role in the 1953 classic “Men’s Hearts,” and William Chang, the art director behind Wong Kar Wai’s acclaimed films. Together, they recreate the nostalgia of growing up with Hong Kong’s beloved TV dramas. “This year’s campaign celebrates the golden era of television and pays homage to how these stories not only captured the imagination, but also brought families and people together,” said Han Chong, Creative director of Self-Portrait.
The campaign unfolds in two distinct settings. The first takes place at Yat Lok Restaurant, where the star-studded cast shares moments of genuine connection amidst the restaurant’s bustling atmosphere. Here, Bowie Wu Fung takes on the role of a waiter, while Carina Lau and William Chang create an atmosphere of warmth and celebration. Bright red taxis navigate the streets outside, while the shared meal becomes a focal point for playful connection.
Moving to the prestigious Island Shangri-La Hotel, the second chapter of the campaign features Carina Lau and Anna Ueyama embodying both their public and private selves. The campaign reflects different facets of festive life, showcasing an intersection of real moments and on-screen fantasy.
