Onitsuka Tiger Fall/Winter 2023 collection displayed the brand’s move towards a sportswear style with a touch of sophistication. Under the leadership of creative director Andrea Pompilio, the Asics-owned brand has been gradually incorporating fashion elements. This collection aims to redefine sportswear as a crucial aspect of a busy, active lifestyle.
The collection features comfortable, tailored pieces, taking inspiration from tracksuits. The woolen felt suits set the tone, while thick, textured wool fabrics were used in oversized peacoats, military-style double-breasted jackets, and layered blazers. The bomber jacket’s padded panels added a bold touch, and gabardine parkas had contrasting strings that swayed as the models walked down the runway.
The collection includes knits made from pressed angora wool, which have a tactile and furry feel, paired with long johns. These pieces evoke an elevated WFH look. Pompilio also included light and delicate dresses made from organza and jersey, adding a feminine touch to the overall aesthetic.
Models of various ages, including Marie Sophie Wilson, a Martin Margiela favorite, were cast, acknowledging the brand’s youthful customer base. Pompilio himself stated that at almost 50 years old, he wears Onitsuka Tiger, demonstrating that the brand appeals to people of all ages.
