As the first days of summer approach, Kenzo is set to launch the first edition of a sneaker series designed by Nigo, a move that propels the brand towards a newfound sportswear legitimacy under the guidance of the artistic director.
The Kenzo-Dome is a tribute to the iconic DOME, a globally renowned Parisian skate landmark situated within the confines of the Palais de Tokyo. This minimalist skate-inspired sneaker, debuting in stores in June 2023, reminisces about the aesthetics of the mid-’90s skate scene. Its design boasts a flat sole and voluminous tongue, reminiscent of the era’s defining style.
The craftsmanship behind the Kenzo-Dome embodies the resilience and flexibility of skate classics, with a choice of suede or grained leather. Its distinctiveness is further accentuated by a rubber “Kenzo Paris” logo affixed on the plush Napa leather tongue, on the heel, and subtly engraved on the side of the sole, designed to provide skateboarders with optimal balance.
The retro-style lining pampers the foot while the padded collar ensures enhanced comfort. The Kenzo-Dome is a canvas of timeless shades, with seasonal hues bringing vibrancy to its range. Available for both men and women, the collection extends from beige and pink suede variants with matching rubber soles to a black suede version with contrasting beige details. A white grained leather iteration with a matching sole rounds out the collection.
The Kenzo-Dome campaign, set within the skate spot that inspired the sneaker’s name, marries the authenticity of skate culture with Kenzo’s high-fashion approach. Captured through the lens of Frank Lebon, the campaign’s imagery is infused with a nostalgic ’90s spirit.
The Kenzo-Dome sneaker will be available from June 2023, retailing at €290 in Kenzo boutiques and online at kenzo.com. The next chapter in the inaugural Kenzo sneaker series by Nigo is set to be revealed later this season.
