In a surprising turn of events, renowned fashion designer Alberta Ferretti has announced her departure from the creative helm of her namesake brand. The Italian fashion icon, who founded her eponymous label in 1981, made the announcement in a heartfelt letter to her followers and industry peers.
Ferretti’s decision to step down marks the end of an era for the brand that has been synonymous with her name for more than four decades. ”A young woman with many dreams and passions brought her collection to the catwalk for the first time. I remember those moments as if they were yesterday. The Alberta of that day is in many ways still the Alberta of today, even if in the meantime a small family business has become a company with 1,500 employees,” the designer recalls.
The Alberta Ferretti brand is a staple in the fashion world, known for its romantic and feminine designs. Ferretti’s creations have graced red carpets and adorned some of the most influential figures in entertainment and politics.
While Ferretti described the decision as “difficult” and “complicated,” she expressed that it was made with careful consideration. She believes it is time for a new chapter and a fresh perspective for the brand that will continue to bear her name.
Throughout her illustrious career, Ferretti has collaborated with industry legends such as photographers Peter Lindbergh and Steven Meisel, as well as the late Franca Sozzani, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia. These partnerships helped shape the brand’s identity and contributed to its global success.
Although she is stepping down from her creative role, Ferretti will retain her position as vice president of Aeffe, the parent company of the Alberta Ferretti brand. She plans to devote more time to her other passions, including art.
Ferretti said her successor will be announced soon, and she has promised to support the new Creative director as he or she takes on this important responsibility. Her last show was recently held in Milan on September 17th.
