The Bottega Veneta Spring/Summer 2025 show in Milan was a testament to the enduring power of childhood memories and the joy of dressing up. Creative director Matthieu Blazy masterfully blended nostalgia with sophisticated tailoring to create a collection that was both playful and undeniably chic.
The show itself was a spectacle, with guests seated on oversized animal beanbags, a whimsical touch that immediately set the tone for the collection. Blazy’s inspiration was evident from the start: the unadulterated joy of a child discovering the transformative power of clothing. Oversized silhouettes, rumpled textures and unexpected pairings evoked a sense of youthful experimentation and harkened back to a time when fashion was pure, unadulterated fun.
Blazy’s mastery of tailoring was evident throughout the collection. Exaggerated blazers and trousers retained a sense of structure despite their playful proportions. Interesting juxtapositions, such as flapper dresses adorned with flamenco ruffles, demonstrated Blazy’s willingness to push boundaries while maintaining a cohesive vision.
The collection wasn’t without its quirks. Asymmetrical skirts with a single pant leg felt experimental, perhaps even a bit jarring. But these were balanced by moments of pure elegance: flowing white shift dresses with delicate eyelash fringe, a vibrant mango jersey dress, and a voluminous rust-colored top paired with a crisp white skirt.
One of the collection’s strengths was its grounding in everyday life. Blazy presented a parade of urban characters – the businessman carrying his daughter’s pink backpack, the chic commuter with a bouquet of flowers – each outfit telling a story. These subtle details added a layer of depth and relatability to the collection, reminding us that fashion is not just about fantasy, but about the everyday moments that shape our lives.
