Bottega Veneta, the renowned Italian luxury brand, is once again highlighting the rich artisanal heritage of its Venetian roots with the fourth annual Bottega for Bottegas 2024 showcase. This year’s selection features six small-scale Venetian artisans, each bringing their unique craftsmanship to the forefront.
Throughout the month of December, Bottega Veneta’s various platforms, from the website to the store windows, will be dedicated to showcasing the exquisite creations of these master artisans. Fonderia Artistica Valese’s brass objects, Signor Blum’s intricate wooden puzzles, Modiano’s elegant playing cards in a leather case, and the enchanting glass creations of Laguna~B, Bruno Amadi, and Wave Murano Glass all take center stage. Fonderia Artistica Valese, Signor Blum, Laguna~B, Bruno Amadi and Wave Murano Glass are all based in Venice, while Modiano is based in nearby Trieste.
The featured designs pay homage to the rich history and culture of Venice, the very essence that has shaped Bottega Veneta since its inception (the name Bottega Veneta means “Venetian artisanal workshop“).
Signor Blum’s wooden block puzzle features typical Venetian architecture. Modiano’s playing cards are from the Trevigiane deck, also known as the Venetian or Veneto deck, which is popular in the Veneto and Friuli-Venezia regions for games of Scopa and Briscola. In meticulously crafted brass objects, Fonderia Artistica Valese depicts the winged lion that has been a symbol of Venice since the 12th century, and the intricate fero on the prow of a gondola, which itself symbolizes the city’s three islands, six sestieri, and Rialto Bridge.
What sets these artisans apart is their ability to seamlessly blend centuries-old traditions with innovative techniques and imaginative expression. The Murano glass ateliers in particular showcase this fusion of old and new, with Laguna~B’s vibrant striped vase and Bruno Amadi’s delicate starfish sculpture pushing the boundaries of the ancient art form.
Bottega Veneta’s commitment to supporting and celebrating craftsmanship is evident in the Bottega for Bottegas initiative. Launched in 2021 as a means to uplift artisans affected by the pandemic, the project has since evolved into an annual celebration of skill, creativity and the enduring spirit of artisanal excellence.
In its first iteration, the project featured bottegas from all over Italy. In its second, the initiative featured bottegas from around the world inspired by Italian culture. Last year, four selected bottegas represented innovative takes on traditional craftsmanship from Italy, Taiwan, China and South Korea.
