Color at the unconditional black Yohji Yamamoto? Purists will cry scandal, but they can rest assured! Even if the introduction of this novelty is a risk, even for its creator – “but it was very dangerous“, in his words – the essence Yohji Yamamoto and the eternal romanticism almost omnipresent in his collections remain.
Yohji Yamamoto’s idea this season is “to take off my old clothes and try new colors, a new inspiration“.
Alongside his usual dark shades of black, deep blue, ivory, and charcoal gray, the Japanese designer introduces a series of colorful kaleidoscopic prints and almost psychedelic appliqués that splash across loose-fitting jackets and wide-leg velvet pants. Other prints include wispy silhouettes of women, angels, Buddhist goddess heads, playful dinosaur designs, Japanese lyrics and sentence fragments, such as “I’m so bored with rules“, “What are you made of?’’, “Shitty life“, “I hate you” and “Lonesome“, faithful to the aesthetic vocabulary of Yohji Yamamoto, with a touch of irony.
