The hangover. A funny, atypical and unusual subject to deal with in fashion. And yet, Chinese designer Sean Suen has taken up the challenge, drawing inspiration from the slightly fuzzy and uncomfortable feeling of a hangover for his Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
The collection featured silhouettes inspired by this in-between state of discomfort and hangover. “To hangovers: no need to stay sharp all the time, no need to make sense of everything”.
Supported by a promotional video filmed in black and white and blurred, and by a palette entirely in this color duo, because “in a hangover, there is no color”, the silhouettes are casual, minimalist and oversized. While the loungewear spirit was very much present, with satin pajamas, nightgowns, silk boxers and touches of lace, unusual details were distilled here and there like the buttoned front of a jacket was placed in the back, becoming its back – the label was sewn on the outside as if the jacket has been turned inside out. Chunky oversized hand knits also gave a cozy feel, perfect for cocooning at home in case of headaches and hangovers.
