Porsche Design has unveiled two limited-edition timepieces to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Porsche 911 Turbo. When the 911 Turbo made its debut at the 1974 Paris Motor Show, it set new standards in automotive performance and design with its powerful 3.0-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine producing 260 PS.
The Porsche 911 Turbo quickly became synonymous with automotive quality and ingenuity. While remaining true to its roots as a driver’s car that captures the essence of Porsche, the 911 Turbo has evolved over the years to incorporate modern materials and technologies.
Inspired by the original 911 he designed, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche created the first all-black Chronograph I in 1972. The black case, combined with an anti-reflective black dial, optimized readability and revolutionized watch design, establishing the concept of a “sports car for the wrist“.
To celebrate the golden jubilee of the 911 Turbo, Porsche Design has launched the Chronograph 1 – 50 Years 911 Turbo Edition, limited to just 500 pieces. Capturing the essence of the car, it’s powered by the COSC-certified Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.240 with flyback function.
The ultra-light yet robust 40.8 mm titanium case features a bead-blasted black titanium carbide coating. The striking black dial is inspired by the dashboard of the original 911 Turbo, with white hands and indexes and a red stop seconds hand. A black chrome-plated winding rotor in the shape of a fox’s wheel and the “Turbo” engraving on the exhibition caseback are further tributes.
Quick-change strap technology makes it easy to switch between the black titanium carbide strap and a special beige textile strap with black Velcro fastener, inspired by the paint and interior of the first 911 Turbo. This versatility ensures that the $12,000 USD watch can be worn with everything from racing suits to casual attire.
Porsche has also released the Chronograph 911 Turbo 50 Years and the Chronograph 911 Turbo 50 Years Heritage Design Edition exclusively for owners of the limited 911 Turbo 50 Years. The former has a black dial with turbonite accents, while the latter features phosphor green and gold elements that echo the tachometer’s color scheme. Owners can purchase these models for $12,553 USD at Porsche centers.
On the road or on the wrist, the 50th anniversary Porsche 911 Turbo Editions exude timeless style, performance and heritage.
