The most recognizable footwear brand in skate culture has just raised the bar with its latest innovation. The OTW by Vans collection introduces the Old Skool 36 FM, reimagining the brand‘s legendary silhouette with forward-thinking design and technology.

The Old Skool 36 FM made its global debut at Milan Design Week as part of the “Checkered Future: Frequency Manifest,” an immersive installation by Willo Perron with soundscapes by Tim Hecker. Performances by Björk, Vegyn and Evissimax underscored the event’s focus on art, music and design – three pillars central to Vans’ identity.
This release continues OTW by Vans’ strategy of high-profile cultural activations, following installations at Paris’ Sacré Coeur, collaborations with artist Sterling Ruby during Frieze Los Angeles and appearances at Paris Fashion Week Men’s.
The original Old Skool, originally called Style 36, holds a special place in skateboarding history as Vans’ second skate shoe and the first to feature the now ubiquitous sidestripe. The updated 36 FM retains this iconic DNA while introducing significant technological upgrades.

Most noticeable is the engineered knit upper, which provides both flexibility and durability where skaters need it most. The signature sidestripe gets a dramatic update with 3D-injected TPU construction, creating a bold visual statement without sacrificing functionality.

Comfort technologies include Vans’ proprietary Sola Foam ADC insole and EVA Strobel construction, addressing the needs of today’s skaters who demand all-day wearability along with performance.
The OTW by Vans Old Skool 36 FM is offered in two colorways, Marshmallow and Black, with a retail price of $125 USD and is available worldwide.
