Y/Project, the avant-garde Parisian fashion brand known for its bold designs and experimental silhouettes, has announced its closure after 14 years in the industry, citing financial difficulties and broader economic challenges in the luxury market.
Founded by Gilles Elalouf and Yohan Serfaty, Y/Project quickly established itself as a trailblazer in the fashion world. The brand’s distinctive aesthetic, characterized by forward-thinking designs and unconventional cuts, has garnered a loyal following among fashion enthusiasts and celebrities alike. Rihanna and Kylie Jenner are among the many stars who have worn Y/Project’s bold creations.

Y/Project reached new heights under the creative leadership of Glenn Martens, who joined the company in 2013. Martens’ vision and innovative approach earned the brand critical acclaim, including the prestigious ANDAM Grand Prize in 2017 and a spot as a finalist in the 2016 LVMH Prize for Young Designers.
Despite these accolades, Y/Project faced significant challenges, especially after the untimely death of co-founder Gilles Elalouf and the departure of Martens. The brand’s financial difficulties came to a head when it was placed under receivership by a Paris commercial court, leading to cash flow problems that ultimately forced the cancellation of its Fall/Winter 2024 show.
In a heartfelt statement, Y/Project expressed its gratitude for the unwavering support it has received over the years. “Y/Project and the team thank all partners and supporters for their unwavering dedication to the brand throughout the years. Special thanks to Glenn Martens, Pascal Conte-Jodra, and the late Gilles Elalouf for giving their team the space to create and grow,” the statement read.
To honor the vision of co-founder Gilles Elalouf, Y/Project will distribute key archive pieces to prestigious institutions. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Antwerp’s MoMu fashion museum, the Palais Galliera and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris will receive selections from the brand’s landmark collections. This gesture ensures that Y/Project‘s legacy and impact on the fashion world will be celebrated and honored for years to come.
