Scandinavian textile brand Tekla and Japanese fashion house Auralee present their exclusive collection inspired by traditional Japanese onsen bathing rituals. The limited edition fuses Scandinavian minimalism with Japanese bathing culture to create sophisticated loungewear and accessories.
“By combining both brand’s expertise and shared values, we are proud to introduce a unique collection that centres and celebrates bathing rituals across Japanese and Scandinavian cultures, finding the synergies within,” explains Charlie Hedin, Founder and Creative director at Tekla.
The collection is inspired by post-onsen moments, when bathers seek comfort after emerging from the thermal waters. Ryota Iwai, designer at Auralee, shares his personal connection: “The bathing ritual is what I love and value most, so finally being able to work on a project which celebrates this, along with the synergies between our brands and the cultures we come from has been incredible.”
The range features meticulously crafted pieces, including an innovative “onsen-size” towel with extended canvas labels for secure positioning around the head or neck. The color palette reflects the natural environment from which onsen springs spring, complementing both brands’ commitment to authentic materials.
Manufactured between Portugal and Japan, the collection showcases Auralee’s expertise in premium fiber outerwear, while Tekla contributes its renowned organic cotton poplin and terry fabrics for sleepwear and towels.
All pieces in the collection are unisex. Sleepwear shirts are priced at €225 EUR, sleepwear pants at €195 EUR and boxer shorts at €70 EUR. Terry towels range from €14 EUR to €70 EUR.
The down jacket is priced at €1115 EUR and the robe coat at €1210 EUR. For accessories, the night knit beanie retails for €260 EUR and the night socks for €115 EUR.
Photographer Nikki McClarron captured the essence of the collection in a remote Japanese location, documenting the sequential stages of the traditional onsen bathing experience. The images underscore the collection’s connection to authentic bathing practices.
The collection is already available at Auralee Tokyo, Tekla Copenhagen, their respective websites and select retailers.
