Alessandro Vigilante, at the helm of Rochas ready-to-wear, delved into the archives for Spring/Summer 2025 and unearthed a photograph of founder Marcel Rochas looking effortlessly chic on the French Riviera in the 1940s. Inspired by Rochas’ dedication to timeless elegance, Vigilante presented his collection at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, transforming the stage into a whimsical beach scene complete with whitewashed cabanas and a sandy runway. The Rochas Spring/Summer 2025 collection is a love letter to the effortless sophistication of a bygone era, when even a day at the beach was an opportunity to show off one’s sartorial prowess.
The collection featured a captivating array of romantic, puffy silhouettes rendered in luxurious fabrics and embellished with feminine details. Vigilante’s meticulous attention to detail was evident in the intricate shell motifs woven into the brocade, the handwoven fringe cascading down delicate lace gowns, and the sculptural tops and skirts designed to resemble sea sponges. The color palette evoked the serene beauty of the coast, with shades of sand, rust, turquoise, coconut white and sunny yellow washed over airy cottons, woven tweeds and pleated poplins.
The spirit of Marcel Rochas himself was palpable in the collection, particularly in the tailored brocade jackets inspired by his own safari jacket and the patch pockets that adorned linen blouses and tropical wool skirts. A nod to the house’s haute couture heritage was seen in kimono-sleeved sundresses and full ra-ra skirts in striped satin and polka-dot tulle. The collection’s romantic sensibility was further emphasized by ruffled sleeves, scarf necklines and delicate watercolor anemone prints.
