Mario Arena steps into the role of Creative director at Joseph, bringing three decades of extensive experience to the iconic London luxury brand founded in 1966.
With an impressive portfolio, Mario Arena joins Joseph with a clear understanding of the brand’s DNA. He previously had his own label, Enlist, and held positions as director of product and design for ready-to-wear, accessories and runway at JW Anderson, head of ready-to-wear at Christopher Kane, and director of design and innovation for ready-to-wear and accessories at Nanushka, as well as collaborating with Celine and LVMH through his own strategic design and trend studio, Arena International. “The rich heritage and timeless design codes have always been an inspiration to me in my career,” said Arena, acknowledging the groundbreaking vision of founder Joseph Ettedgui as “visionary who pushed the boundaries in design and retailing.”
Arena will be based at Joseph’s newly created design division in South West London, which houses a newly appointed design team, atelier, product development and production teams alongside the brand’s headquarters. He succeeds husband-and-wife duo Anna Lundbäck Dyhr and Frederik Dyhr, who have served as co-Creative directors since 2020. Previous designers at the brand include Susan Clayton and Louise Trotter, who is now Creative director at Carven.
Barbara Campos, CEO of Joseph, praised Arena as a “highly talented creative who has a wealth of experience within contemporary luxury,” and expressed her excitement to work with him as the brand enters a new chapter.
Arena’s first collection, scheduled for Spring/Summer 2026, will debut next year.
Founded in 1966 by Joseph Ettedgui as a multi-brand concept store, Joseph is known for its luxury wardrobe essentials, including cashmere knitwear, trousers and tailoring. The in-house label was launched in 1983 to complement the designer brands featured in the stores. Ettedgui’s keen eye for design and innovative approach, such as installing a restaurant in his store, made Joseph a hotspot for London’s elite.
