LGN Louis-Gabriel Nouchi’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection pays homage to the novel “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis, delving into the subjects of toxic masculinity and societal norms.
This collection boasts a variety of tailored pieces including jackets, dressing gowns and activewear all with a comfortable and sensual feel of loungewear. The collection features strong shoulder lines and a narrow waist inspired by the businessman suits of the 1980s, similar to the style of Patrick Bateman, the novel’s protagonist who is fixated on his appearance.
For the first time, LGN Louis-Gabriel Nouchi has collaborated with Ecco Leather to incorporate leather into this collection. The transparent leather used, reminiscent of Bateman’s murder coat, is tanned using a chemical-free method giving it a parchment-like appearance. Chainsaws and axes, symbols of violence in the novel, have been repurposed into fashionable handbags.
The collection also includes a new design of draped jersey tops and dresses reminiscent of women’s evening gowns, evoking the image of Patrick Bateman’s victims wrapped in cellophane. The color palette of the collection is composed of black, white, blood red and city banker blue. The seasonal print is based on the blood splatters on clothing, a reminder of the violence in the novel.
LGN Louis-Gabriel Nouchi’s signature slit, present on the neckline of tops and shirts, is used to suggest the blade-like cuts seen in the novel. Furthermore, the collection promotes diversity by featuring a wide range of male bodies, including professional models, customers, celebrities and friends, on the catwalk since the Fall/Winter 2022 season.
