On January 26th, 2023, Pierpaolo Piccioli, who was awarded Best Designer of 2022 at the British Fashion Awards, unveiled his latest creation: the Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The show took place under the Alexander III bridge and was attended by celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Ashley Park, and Charli XCX.
Piccioli drew inspiration from the club scene for his collection, incorporating the extravagance and energy of the culture. He believes that couture should break from its traditional roots and reach a wider audience. The designer aimed to create a collection full of humanity and personalities, much like a club where people can be their best selves.
The 89-piece lineup was a mix of old-school glamour, reminiscent of Valentino Garavani’s designs from the 80s, and modern, minimal-coverage looks. The collection was partywear for a post-lockdown world, featuring neon green tights, platform shoes, sheer pink blouses, and micro briefs.
The show was a display of both artistry and craftsmanship. Pieces like a tulle jumpsuit with thousands of feathers and a ballgown made of 320 meters of purple taffeta required hours of meticulous work. Despite the electrifying soundtrack and underground setting, the show was a stunning fashion spectacle.
Piccioli’s latest collection celebrated the impossible, showcasing pieces that appeared out of this world. The finale was a parade of luxe ravers who stepped out into the night, cheered on by the crowd. The Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 collection broke away from the quiet atmosphere of the salons on Place Vendôme and made a bold statement that couture can still resonate with the younger generation.
