Ten years after entering the luxury smartwatch market, TAG Heuer has released the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5, marking a decade of refinement and technological progress for the Swiss watchmaker. This fifth-generation smartwatch is more than just another product update. It demonstrates how a traditional watch brand can develop connected timepieces without abandoning the principles that define Swiss watchmaking.

Two sizes for different wrists

TAG Heuer now offers the Calibre E5 in 45 mm and 40 mm case diameters. The traditional 45 mm size is still available for those who prefer a larger presence on the wrist, while the new 40 mm option is ideal for those who found previous models too substantial. Both sizes maintain the design language that has defined the Connected collection since its inception.

The cases have received thoughtful updates. Faceted lugs create sharper lines than earlier generations, and redesigned pushers flow more smoothly into the case profile. The new interchangeable strap system eliminates visual gaps between the case and strap, creating an uninterrupted flow reminiscent of traditional watch construction.

Material choices reflect different wearing preferences. The 45 mm models are available in brushed and polished stainless steel with ceramic bezels or in black DLC-coated grade 2 titanium with a full sandblasted finish for a more technical appearance. The 40mm range uses polished stainless steel and features domed sapphire crystals with gray and silver hour markers printed on the underside of the crystal. A rose gold PVD version within the 40mm collection adds warmer tones and is paired with a beige rubber strap.

Comprehensive strap options

The redesigned strap system offers the widest selection of materials yet seen on a Connected watch. With rubber, leather, metal, and nylon options, wearers can shift between sporty and formal contexts. Most configurations of the 45mm models use deployant clasps, though sport straps feature pin buckles. The 40 mm versions use proportionally scaled pin buckles for the rubber straps and folding clasps for the leather straps.

This generation significantly expands the variety of watch faces. The Calibre E5 offers the largest selection TAG Heuer has developed for the Connected line, drawing inspiration from the Carrera, Aquaracer, and Formula 1 collections. This enables wearers to reference different periods and models from TAG Heuer’s mechanical watch history while utilizing connected technology.

TAG Heuer OS makes its debut

The Calibre E5 introduces TAG Heuer OS, a proprietary operating system and interface developed entirely by TAG Heuer. Based on the Android Open Source Project, the system gives TAG Heuer control over the user experience instead of relying on third-party interfaces. The interface emphasizes legibility, cleaner visual organization, and faster navigation compared to previous generations.

Voice calls and voice assistant access are enabled by an integrated speaker and microphone. TAG Heuer has calibrated the audio system for clarity while maintaining discretion. Custom haptics and sounds specific to TAG Heuer complete the proprietary experience.

The interface supports customizable widgets for activity tracking, heart rate monitoring, weather updates, and other functions. The 45mm model has a battery life of up to three days, and the 40mm version has a battery life of up to two days. The 45mm model charges to full capacity in 30 minutes, and the 40mm model in 40 minutes.

Connectivity improvements reduce pairing times by a factor of five compared to earlier generations. Full MFi certification ensures compatibility with iPhone devices. The watch supports Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Health and wellness tracking

The Wellness Activity app monitors daily movement and tracks calories burned, steps taken, and active time. Daily and weekly visualizations help users understand their activity patterns. Personalized goal settings transform intentions into attainable objectives.

The Heart Rate app provides continuous heart rate readings, including minimum and maximum heart rate data, throughout the day. Resting and workout heart rates are tracked separately, and daily graphs show trends.

Sleep tracking functionality will be available later this winter. This feature analyzes sleep phases, blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, and heart rate variability. These combined metrics aim to provide an understanding of nightly rest patterns and their effect on overall well-being.

Running and golf capabilities

With the Calibre E5, TAG Heuer has deepened its commitment to specific sports disciplines. For runners, the watch offers structured training plans suitable for various experience levels. Dual-band GNSS technology ensures accurate GPS tracking, even when trees or buildings interfere with satellite signals.

The battery lasts up to 17 hours on the 45mm model and up to 12 hours on the 40mm model during GPS tracking. The redesigned Sports app improves readability and provides real-time access to essential data during training sessions.

The Calibre E5 Golf Edition offers dedicated features for golfers. This version features an engraved bezel marked with hole numbers one through eighteen, reflecting golf traditions. The bi-material strap combines rubber with a textured surface inspired by golf ball dimples to provide grip and a visual connection to the sport.

The redesigned course map display shows complete hole layouts with dynamic auto-zoom. The enhanced auto-scoring functionality provides data for rounds without requiring interaction with other devices. There are over 40,000 course maps available for download worldwide. Improved shot detection algorithms and GPS convergence that is three times faster than the previous generation contribute to an experience designed for competitive and recreational golfers alike.
