During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anthony Vaccarello had chosen to present his Saint Laurent collections via the medium of film, using spectacular natural settings as his backdrops. But the health situation is now better and Saint Laurent is finally back on the official Paris Fashion Week schedule, more exactly at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

With Paris’ iconic monument in the background, the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2022 collection included 62 new 80’s-inspired looks with the incomparable Paloma Picasso as inspirations.
Big sunglasses, leather gloves and major gold jewelry heightened the 1980s allure and winked to Paloma Picasso, whose theatrical sense of dress was said to have inspired house founder Yves Saint Laurent.
Picasso’s trademarks were scattered generously throughout the collection, with dark hair, scarlet pouts and androgynous influence reigning supreme in almost every look. “She projected a glamorous toughness”, Vaccarello said. “And it was a way for her to move through the world and hold her own”.
“For a long time, I wanted to transpose this meeting between Paloma Picasso and Yves Saint Laurent, whose importance few realise in the designer’s creative journey”, continued Vaccarello. “It is a moment to which I am sensitive as a designer, because for me it is the defining moment when Saint Laurent’s fashion creativity became a style”.
