Peter Do‘s tenure as Creative director at Helmut Lang comes to an end this month, marking a turning point for both the designer and the Fast Retailing-owned label. Since joining Helmut Lang in May 2023, Do has worked to reinvigorate the brand for a new generation, fusing its signature minimalist aesthetic with a fresh, accessible vision.
“Peter Do joined Helmut Lang in 2023, bringing a fresh perspective and revitalizing the brand for a new generation. He reinforced the brand’s reputation for pushing boundaries while honoring its minimalist roots,” the brand said in a statement.
Over the course of four collections, Do reinterpreted Helmut Lang’s codes through a contemporary lens, emphasizing functionality and warmth. While his debut collection for Spring/Summer 2024 received mixed reviews, Do’s direction evolved, culminating in a more cohesive collection for Resort 2025 (Cruise 2025).
“I want to express my gratitude to my Helmut Lang team, who have been integral in supporting my vision,” said Do. “It’s been an incredible journey to be tasked to carry on the legacy of Helmut Lang. I would like to give special thanks to Kazumi for this opportunity of a lifetime and an experience that I will never forget.”
Though brief, Do’s influence is evident in Helmut Lang’s shift toward a more balanced approach, blending modern lines with approachable sophistication. His final contribution, the Pre-Fall 2025 collection, reflects his commitment to honoring the brand’s DNA while making its language of style more inviting.
Upon his departure, Do will refocus his energies on his eponymous luxury line, which will be launched in New York in 2018. This transition marks a new chapter for both the designer and Helmut Lang, as the brand looks to build on the foundation Do established during his tenure.
Helmut Lang was founded in 1986 by its namesake designer, who pioneered minimalism and pushed boundaries before leaving the industry in 2005. Since then, the brand has been led by a number of creative talents, including Mark Howard Thomas, Thomas Cawson and Shayne Oliver.
