Alessandro Dell’Acqua, the quiet rebel of Milan, showcased his Spring/Summer 2025 collection for N°21, drawing inspiration from the audacious spirit of 1960s Mod culture. Infused with a distinct Milanese sensibility, the collection offered a captivating blend of prim and provocative, masculine and feminine, echoing the freewheeling style of the era’s youth.
Dell’Acqua’s muse for this season emerged from the lens of Swiss photographer Karlheinz Weinberger, whose images captured the rebellious energy of the Mods and their unique ability to fuse bourgeois codes with rebellious undertones. This inspiration was evident in the unexpected pairings that defined the collection: chiffon blouses layered over striped knits, trucker jackets juxtaposed with pink lingerie, and shimmering cocktail dresses topped with oversized military parkas.
The collection exuded a playful energy, reflecting Dell’Acqua’s fascination with British clothing archetypes reinterpreted through his Italian lens. Cocktail dresses, crafted from luxurious satin and brocade, hinted at Cristóbal Balenciaga’s iconic sack silhouette but were modernized with drawstrings, jeweled embellishments, and unexpected pairings with flat footwear.
Beyond the striking combinations, Dell’Acqua infused the collection with vibrant hues, a departure from his usual subdued palette. A bold yellow anorak paired with a soft pink pencil skirt, and a hot pink duchesse opera coat layered over a sequined sheath, injected a jolt of color into the collection. Yet, the final look, a sheer black ensemble, served as a reminder of the designer’s inherent sensuality.
