With his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Filippo Grazioli, the creative force behind Missoni, offered a bold and avant-garde interpretation of the brand’s iconic zigzag pattern. Grazioli delved into the archives, breathing new life into the motif and showcasing Missoni’s deep artistic heritage.
Inspired by American artist Ruth Asawa, known for her intricate wire sculptures, Grazioli translated the zigzag into a series of striking three-dimensional knit forms. These appeared as undulating, protruding and spiraling elements on a variety of garments. Tubular tops, minidresses and leggings were transformed into kinetic sculptures that pulsated with energy and a sense of playful defiance.
Grazioli’s color palette was equally bold, inspired by the vibrant hues of Piet Mondrian. The collection burst with primary colors reminiscent of a child’s imagination, yet meticulously crafted with Missoni’s signature knitwear expertise. Dresses made from knotted ribbons, tunics embellished with oversized sequins, and jacquard sheaths with randomly placed fringes underscored Grazioli’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries.
While some may have found the collection excessive, Grazioli’s unwavering focus and conviction shone through. The Spring/Summer 2025 collection served as a powerful reminder of Missoni’s enduring legacy of innovation and artistry, leaving the audience energized and excited for the brand’s future.
