Spanish luxury brand Loewe reinforces its connection to Chinese cultural heritage with an extraordinary capsule collection celebrating the Year of the Snake. This limited-edition series showcases exceptional craftsmanship, fusing contemporary fashion with centuries-old techniques.
This year, the collection is inspired by the ancient art of Chinese cloisonné, a technique traditionally used at the royal court. In this process, intricate patterns and motifs are created using precious metal wires, which are then filled with colored glass paste, resulting in vibrant and detailed decorative pieces.
Master Xiong Songtao, a third-generation enameller renowned for his expertise in Chinese Arts and Crafts, lends his talent to this collaboration.
The centerpiece of the collection features intricate cloisonné work with snake and lotus motifs that adorns the signature Nest bag, as well as necklaces with auspicious motifs of snakes, monkeys and clouds.
The capsule also extends to ready-to-wear and accessories. Standout pieces include cloud-shaped clutches and coiled snake designs that transform the brand’s classic silhouettes. The popular Puzzle bag gets a special treatment with three-dimensional cloud elements and serpentine chain details.
The collection is complemented by the short film “Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake.” The film features contemporary dance, traditional kite making and shadow puppetry to celebrate craftsmanship and the arrival of spring. Starring renowned Chinese dancer Xie Xin and her troupe, the narrative follows a lone snake who is embraced by the animals of the forest as they collectively usher in the new season. The film also features shadow puppets by Chinese artist Danno and snake props by Zhang Xiaodong, a recognized representative of the traditional Weifang dragon craft under China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage project.
The collection is already available in Loewe retail stores and at loewe.com.
