As Paris bathes in the twilight of the forthcoming summer, we are invited to bask in the exquisite narrative of Études’ Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Embracing the subtle rhythms of Parisian life, designers Aurélien Arbet, Jeremy Egry, and José Lamali have woven a tapestry of style that captures the elegance of living in the moment. This collection marks the concluding chapter of a triptych observation, recounting the journey from the city’s peripheral ring road to its intimate heart, and ultimately, to an elusive rooftop overlooking the radiant basilica of Montmartre.
The Études design trio, known for their uncanny ability to harmonize the pulse of the street with an elevated sense of fashion, have once again excelled in encapsulating the transformative essence of Paris. “We believe that a roof is an interesting spot that you can access only if you have the tips to get there, especially in Paris”, said Egry, reflecting on the thematic selection of the location. The show, aptly titled “Crépuscule” (or “Twilight”), embodies the twilight’s wistful beauty as the day winds down and the city’s vibrant nightlife takes center stage.
This hidden rooftop, an industrial shell tucked away in the foothills of Montmartre, proved to be the perfect backdrop for a collection steeped in ’90s utilitarian aesthetics. The undeniably urban setting resonated with the fashion trilogy’s debut line, presenting an array of boiler suits, tracksuits, and versatile utility jackets. The color palette was a gentle journey in itself, traversing from softer, delicate shades such as the subtle “pigeon gray” – a tribute to the city’s ubiquitous bird – to the darker, intense hues punctuated with sudden bursts of high-visibility orange.
Art, too, found its way into the collection, with a selection of outfits adorned by sketches from French artist Julien Farade. His playful, zesty doodles of chimneys, pigeons, and rooftops breathed an additional layer of energy into the collection, adding a lived-in, party-tested touch that lent a street art vibe to the lineup.
The design trio’s affinity for tailoring was manifest in the collection’s standout pieces. The precision in these designs lent a refined sharpness to their workwear-inspired aesthetic. In contrast, the presence of relaxed sportswear seemed to hush the collection’s vibrancy, casting a soft whisper across Études‘ Spring/Summer line-up.
