Bottega Veneta has announced a capsule collection celebrating the beloved illustrations of American author Richard Scarry.
Creative director Matthieu Blazy, who has a personal connection to Scarry’s work, describes the books as “a beloved source of childhood fantasy” and “a source of inspiration and joy“.
The centerpiece is a reimagining of the Biggest Word Book Ever, which measures an impressive 62.5 x 52.5 centimeters. Bottega Veneta’s renowned Intrecciato leather technique transforms the cover into a tactile masterpiece, featuring the charming Lowly Worm character.
Based on a 2013 reissue of Scarry’s 1985 classic, the book features Lowly Worm, one of the illustrator’s most iconic characters. Blazy praised Lowly’s unique ensemble, consisting of a Tyrolean hat, a red bowtie, a colorful body tube, and a single shoe, as “the best outfit in the world.” While the book’s interior mirrors the 2013 edition, it includes a custom-made Bottega Veneta Ex Libris sticker on the first page, adding a touch of exclusivity. The leather-bound volume is accompanied by a matching sketchbook with the same Intrecciato Lowly Worm cover, offering blank pages for personal creative expression.
The capsule collection goes beyond books, offering a range of accessories that embody the playful spirit of Scarry’s universe. A striped version of Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato Dust Bag, inspired by Scarry’s signature color palette, sits alongside a striped belt, an apple-shaped buckle belt, striped wallets, and a card holder, allowing fans to carry a piece of Scarry’s whimsy with them wherever they go.
