Balenciaga has opened its first standalone store in Austin, Texas, capturing the imagination of design and architecture aficionados. Located in The Domain, a vibrant mixed-use urban hub, the 6,137-square-foot (570 m²) space blends industrial aesthetics with sustainable materials.
Designed under the brand’s Raw Architecture concept, the store challenges conventional luxury by integrating existing architectural features and prioritizing sustainability. The exterior harmonizes with Austin’s southwestern character through thoughtfully selected materials: glass panels interact with porcelain and quartz elements, while backlit concrete columns create a captivating visual dialogue with the surrounding landscape.
Upon entry, visitors are greeted by neutral grays and materials that evoke the textures of sand and stone. The walls feature patinated concrete panels, smoked glass, and hot-rolled steel with unique processing marks. The floor is a thoughtful blend of brushed concrete, poured concrete and embedded carpet sections. An open ceiling reveals the technology systems above, adding to the industrial aesthetic.
The furnishings add to the distinctive feel of the store. Aged steel tables and industrial pipe shelving display Balenciaga’s latest collections, including men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, accessories, eyewear and jewelry. High-definition screens introduce a modern element, while focused lighting and softened leather seating provide moments of warmth. A light box facing the street adds to the inviting atmosphere.
Balenciaga‘s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout the design. By using eco-friendly materials and incorporating existing architectural elements, the brand demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to retail spaces.
