This season, adidas and Yohji Yamamoto reimagine athletic norms with their latest creation, the sleek and simplified Y-3 Kyasu sneaker.
First unveiled during Yohji Yamamoto’s Fall/Winter 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week, the Y-3 Kyasu is a striking example of design innovation. Its creation began with an intriguing concept from the Y-3 design team: to create a sneaker reminiscent of an adidas Superstar cast in concrete. The result is a shoe that challenges conventional design norms.
What sets the Y-3 Kyasu apart is its unique construction. The sneaker features a rubber shell toe, an exaggerated polyurethane midsole and a suede upper, all coming together in a seamless blend of materials. The absence of an insole or heel is a bold move, as the upper is stitched directly to the soft, lightweight midsole. This design choice not only provides a stark and brutal aesthetic, but also ensures an expressive and unique look.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Y-3 Kyasu is its fully foldable upper paired with a thick, brick-like outsole. This combination allows the sneaker to stand vertically, a feature that visually captures Yamamoto’s renowned avant-garde design philosophy.
The Y-3 Kyasu is available in both high and low cuts. The sneaker has garnered global attention and is available at adidas.com/y-3, the Confirmed app, adidas stores and select retailers.
