adidas Spezial recently announced their newest sneaker: the Gazelle SPZL.
The Gazelle SPZL is a modern reinterpretation of the classic adidas silhouette, cleverly weaving together elements from the late ’60s, ’70s and ’80s Gazelles. This innovative approach to design is evident in the shoe‘s reimagined upper specifications and the introduction of a new foxing tape. The latter features an intriguing mix of textures that pay homage to the shoe’s rich heritage.
Gary Aspden, the adidas archivist and founder of Spezial, curated the Fall/Winter 2023 collection, which proudly includes the Gazelle SPZL. His vision breathes new life into this iconic adidas shoe, demonstrating a deep respect for its history while pushing the boundaries of contemporary style.

The special series celebrates this iconic silhouette with two different versions. The first is a bottle green suede with white stripes, featuring a traditional dimpled tongue and white eyelet, reminiscent of the early ’70s West German version. The second version, inspired by the terrace classic ”Tahiti Marine”, comes in a navy colorway. It features a suede upper with flock stripes, a material uniquely chosen for this release. This version also features a suede tongue with a woven branded label.
The adidas Special Gazelle SPZL is available now via the adidas Confirmed app and selected retailers.
