Australian fashion house Zimmermann, fresh from opening a new Soho store in New York with 14 more locations planned, presented its Spring/Summer 2025 collection in Paris. Inspired by the 1970s Australian surf film “Morning of the Earth,” designer Nicky Zimmermann sought to capture the film’s sun-drenched aesthetic and translate it into flowing, airy garments. Zimmermann Spring/Summer 2025 evokes the golden light of sunrise on the ocean.
The collection features a range of pieces from navy organza dresses with braided macramé bodices to practical viscose drill trenches, shorts and shirt dresses. A recurring aloha print of kangaroos nestled among palm trees added a playful touch. Fine metallic threads woven into organza skirts and dresses created a shimmering effect reminiscent of sunlight dancing on water.
Zimmermann incorporated innovative design elements such as neoprene panels in bronze jersey dresses for both structure and fluidity. Subtle details such as lightweight corduroy pants and shell and dolphin necklaces nodded to classic surf culture. Fringed rattan baskets and leather bags with surfboard-inspired hardware completed the looks. Cropped linen voile smock tops embellished with wavelets and a sunburst yin and yang mandala further emphasized the collection’s theme without being overly literal.
The collection also featured hand-braided macramé detailing on flowing chiffon maxi dresses in blues and earth tones. Crocheted tunics with sun embroidery were paired with cargo shorts or balloon pants, while parachute coats and windbreakers added a touch of airy movement. A standout piece was a silvery organza skirt paired with a wetsuit-inspired bodysuit whose fine filament weave created the illusion of water reflections. Subtle prints, including a faded Hawaiian motif and pastel beach scenes, adorned shirt dresses and maxi skirts. Pleated jersey dresses with neoprene corset belts offered a sophisticated take on the surf-inspired theme.
