Barely a few weeks after showing his Valentino Spring/Summer 2022 collection at the Carreau du Temple and in the surrounding streets, where people were sitting in cafés enjoying the show, Pierpaolo Piccioli got back to his “Parisian” experience en plein air.

Piccioli’s Resort 2022 collection for Valentino, photographed in the famous Marais district, in the café called Le Progrès on rue de Bretagne – note that the name was not chosen at random. It corresponds to his way of thinking, to the meaning he wants to give to the brand: to bring la couture dans les rues. “I want to bring life and a sense of reality to Valentino”, Piccioli said – reads like a sort of prequel to the Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
Interpreted in bright and acrylic colors, in clear and precise lines, shapes were simple and “almost elemental, without any grandeur”, and enhanced by elaborate decorations. Everyday pieces, such as hoodies, denim pieces, overshirts, cargo pants…, have a couture touch. Feathers dotted sweats, capes, and svelte minidresses; long braided fringes trimmed ponchos; intricate broderie anglaise techniques appeared on slender, minimal tunics; and romantic blouses were encrusted with precious lace and worn with denim. Every piece of the collection was treated individually to make it stand out on its own, and can be mixed and interpreted as desired.
