In a fashion world where surprise collaborations are becoming the norm, Uniqlo is serving its own innovative volley. The famed Japanese retailer sets the ball in motion with the Roger Federer and JW Anderson ensemble, a collection destined to leave a compelling mark on the fashion landscape.
An inspired fusion of the worlds of sport and style, this joint venture sees tennis legend Roger Federer partnering with the eclectic British fashion label, JW Anderson. The resulting creation, the Uniqlo line, is a marriage of Federer’s sporting prowess with the modish aesthetic of JW Anderson, both long-standing Uniqlo affiliates.
With Federer becoming a brand ambassador for Uniqlo in 2018 and Jonathan Anderson, the genius behind JW Anderson, working with the retailer since 2017, it’s no wonder that their creative trajectories would eventually intersect. A nine-piece collection of unisex clothing stands as a testament to this.
“I’ve always wanted to have a collection perfect for playing tennis while also versatile for the other parts of daily life”, Federer reflects on the partnership. “I’m fortunate that Jonathan shared this vision. Together we were able to create a stylish and comfortable line rooted in a classic tennis style. Jonathan is talented, creative and incredibly down-to-earth. It has been a pleasure to work with him on this collection”.
This collection is a stellar array of sportswear-inspired pieces. From polos to sweaters, shorts to parkas, and even a sports bag, the palette of black, white, gray and blue resonates with an urban sense of chic. Uniqlo’s Dry Ex material, known for keeping the wearer cool and dry, characterizes the polo shirts and shorts.
Eye-catching styles that have fashion connoisseurs buzzing include a colorblocked crewneck sweater, a fleece jacket adorned with zippers and a white tracksuit with navy, green and white piping details.
“When I was first approached about creating a collection with Roger, I remember being very happy and excited. That’s because I was so influenced by watching Roger play”, Jonathan Anderson’s excitement was palpable. “Thinking a lot about what LifeWear means for all the different people who look up to Roger, we designed a collection that could be worn in an actual match, for a classic look or just as easily be worn around town. We’ve got something that feels elevated, and it is kind of timeless”.
Priced between $39.90 to $89.90, the Uniqlo’s Roger Federer Collection by JW Anderson is set to make waves from August 28th, in stores and online.
