The worlds of fashion and art have intertwined once again, paving the way for a uniquely transcendent fusion in the Tommy Jeans x Keith Haring collection. A testament to the common vision shared by Tommy Hilfiger and Keith Haring back in the 1980s, this collaboration reignites their enduring aspiration to make art and fashion accessible to everyone.
Tommy Hilfiger and Keith Haring, two of New York City’s artistic icons, took the pulse of the city in the 1980s and fused it into a shared ethos that transcended time. Haring, renowned for his message that “art is for everyone“, opened his iconic pop shop at 292 Lafayette Street, a place that pulsated with creativity and embodied this ethos. Concurrently, Hilfiger was laying the groundwork for his fashion empire, an endeavor that mirrored Haring’s in its quest to democratize fashion. The footprints of their shared dream continue to inspire the contemporary landscape.
In this new collection, Tommy Jeans x Keith Haring, Hilfiger channels the undying spirit of Haring’s graphic oeuvre into an eclectic 30-piece collection spanning menswear, womenswear, and novelty items. The creative interplay between fashion and art is evident in the assortment, as Haring’s distinctive motifs meet the quintessential preppy silhouettes of Tommy Hilfiger‘s signature style. The result is a modern homage to hip-hop culture and a vibrant love letter to New York City.
Of note are a wool varsity jacket adorned with Haring’s dancing dog badges and a heart face, and a denim jacket featuring an expressive patchwork of Haring’s classic dancing figures. A selection of knits, jumpers, and hoodies embrace Americana aesthetics, featuring symbols like the “radiant baby“, a Haring signature that symbolizes innocence and the potential of youth. In addition, graphic designs on tops and shorts pay tribute to Haring’s 1991 exhibition at Westbeth Paint’s Space. Further personal touches appear on t-shirts that host Polaroids from various stages of Haring’s career.
Hilfiger expressed his admiration for Haring’s work, stating, “Keith Haring is a New York icon and represents the city’s creative spirit. We shared a commitment to inclusivity, self-expression, and spreading optimism. This collection channels positivity and brings Keith’s unmistakable energy to modern-day prep“. These sentiments are exquisitely encapsulated in the campaign images shot by Elliot Kennedy, featuring layered textures of paint, marker and chalk in a nod to Haring’s multidisciplinary and DIY approach.
The collection is timed perfectly to coincide with a new exhibition, “Art Is For Everybody“, at The Broad in Los Angeles, opened on May 27th. The exhibition features over 120 of Haring’s works, a tribute to the artist’s prolific and influential career.
The Tommy Jeans x Keith Haring collection is now available for purchase in stores and on the Tommy Hilfiger website.
