At The Shed in Hudson Yards, Thom Browne created a surreal landscape of artificial grass, earth, oversized leaves and branches, with a giant chrysalis positioned at the center of the runway. The setting immediately introduced the collection’s central idea: metamorphosis.
The show began with models dressed as caterpillars, wearing delicate sheer skirts and anatomical bodysuits in muted shades. One disappeared into the enormous cocoon, establishing a narrative that would unfold throughout the presentation before reaching its transformation at the finale.
Nature provided Browne with an unusually rich visual vocabulary. Dragonflies, ants, bees, moths, beetles, ladybugs and caterpillars appeared across his signature tailoring through embroidery, intarsia, sequins and elaborate appliqué. A long-stemmed flower and bee decorated one tailored jacket, while other pieces featured insects worked subtly into plaid and tweed before the collection moved toward increasingly sculptural territory.
Browne used the physical structure of insects as a starting point for silhouette. Rounded skirts suggested beetle shells and ladybug bodies, while corsets and narrow skirts were constructed from complex interlocking fabric panels reminiscent of protective exoskeletons. Origami-like folds created geometric surfaces inspired by the anatomy of caterpillars, turning scientific references into highly controlled fashion forms.

The Thom Browne Spring 2027 collection was playful, but never casual. Browne’s precise tailoring remained at its core, appearing in sharply built jackets, pleated skirts and fitted dresses. Some looks combined vest-like fronts with airy skirts, while others exaggerated volume through couture-like three-dimensional constructions.

As the show progressed, bright colors temporarily gave way to a darker sequence of black patchwork looks, accompanied by Metallica’s “Moth Into Flame.” The mood then shifted again as the caterpillar characters returned transformed into butterflies, dressed in vivid pleated skirts and streamlined high-neck pieces.
The final looks pushed the idea of metamorphosis toward full couture spectacle. Wing-like panels framed the face, while silk, velvet and intricately pleated fabrics created dramatic, almost ceremonial silhouettes.
