S.S.Daley (Steven Stokey-Daley,) the darling of London’s young fashion scene and recipient of the prestigious LVMH Prize in 2022, presented his first foray into womenswear for Spring/Summer 2025. With Harry Styles, a minority investor in the brand, and actress Emma Corrin sitting in the front row, the anticipation for this collection was palpable. Known for his playful take on classic British menswear, often made from upcycled materials, Stokey-Daley has gained a loyal following since bursting onto the scene during the pandemic.
For his first womenswear collection, Stokey-Daley was inspired by the life and aesthetic of British painter Gluck, a non-binary artist who lived as a man in the 1920s and ’30s, and Constance Spry, a renowned florist and one of Gluck’s lovers. The collection was a harmonious blend of masculine and feminine elements, reflecting Gluck’s own sartorial choices and Spry’s floral artistry. Sharp tailoring, a Stokey-Daley signature, was rendered in soft, flowing silhouettes. Floral motifs inspired by Spry’s work adorned knife-pleated skirts and beaded handbags.
Stokey-Daley’s commitment to responsible sourcing and upcycling was evident throughout the collection. His signature Oxford bags were reimagined with delicate floral appliqués, showcasing his ability to infuse whimsy into classic designs. The collection also featured playful elements, such as sweaters adorned with prints of black and white pointers, a nod to the Chelsea Lady aesthetic.
Despite his rapid rise in the fashion world, Stokey-Daley remains grounded and committed to creating clothes that resonate with his clientele. For his womenswear debut, he sought input from the women on his team to ensure that his designs reflected their perspectives and desires.
S.S.Daley’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection is a testament to his evolving vision and ability to seamlessly blend historical inspiration with contemporary sensibilities. It is a collection that celebrates individuality, challenges traditional notions of gender and offers a fresh perspective on British style.
