Designer Fausto Puglisi’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection for Roberto Cavalli was a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The Italian fashion house, known for its flamboyant and extravagant designs, was in full swing at Milan’s Stock Exchange as Puglisi showcased his latest creations. The designer was inspired by the brand’s founder, Roberto Cavalli, whom he referred to as “the king of relaxed glamour“.
This collection was a true tribute to the Cavalli legacy, with animal motifs, lavish furs, and denim being the focal points. The designer’s take on denim was particularly noteworthy, as it was a nod to the house founder’s early days when he would scrounge for denim scraps to create hippie treasures.
Puglisi also took inspiration from iconic fashion figures of the past, including Kate Moss and Georgia O’Keeffe. The designer was particularly taken by his 2022 trip through the American Southwest and incorporated tooled leather, silver studding, and turquoise beads in his designs.
Kate Moss’s black lace was reinvented in various forms, including a devoré robe with Elvira sleeves, a sheer catsuit with feather-trimmed legs, and a sequined lace miniskirt. The designer’s attention to detail was evident in each piece, and the collection lived up to Roberto Cavalli’s reputation for excess.
Despite the overwhelming amount of information on the runway, Puglisi shrugged it off and said, “It’s just a bunch of separates“. He made this point by showing a studded and beaded leather motorcycle jacket on both a man and a woman.
