Julien Dossena draws on “The Party“, the 1968 classic comedy starring Peter Sellers to channel the psychedelic mood of his Cruise 2023 (Resort 2023) collection for Paco Rabanne.
“It’s really funny and aesthetically really interesting because it’s all set in a kind of LA film producer’s house in Hollywood in the ’60s, a crowded party with a lot of different looks and attitudes that was super interesting to work on-to get to that celebration spirit in a way that could be a little bit off in the proportions”, he told Vogue.
He channeled the era’s insouciance with an effortless approach to glamour and more casual takes on dressing up.
Highlights included jersey separates embroidered in a dégradé of silver and gold sequins, lurex knits in optical stripes, high-slit maxi skirts held in place with a brooch, silver-to-gold paillette dress embellished with glints of crystal, chain-trimmed or fringed cropped sweaters, or a sleeveless version of an archival disc dress, originally worn by Audrey Hepburn in “Two for the Road”.
Accessories included tiny “jewelry” bags on chains – some of them made from linked metallic leather, while others with jangly heart-shaped paillettes.
