For Spring/Summer 2023 season, Massimo Giorgetti, the founder of the Italian label MSGM, revisited the figure of the bride in a cheeky, sensual, deconstructed version inspired by the greatest cinematic masterpieces of our generation, such as François Truffaut’s “The Bride was in Black”, starring Jeanne Moreau, or Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill”, starring Uma Thurman.
“It’s very cinematic. I started from the romantic comedy to arrive in a slightly dramatic way to the action film, revisiting the codes of marriage in a modern spirit”, explained Giorgetti. Before adding: “I like that this theme of marriage, freedom, love, togetherness coincided with today… I’m aware that an eternal promise of love cannot easily be kept. Yet it’s a promise that, however illusory, can save us from loneliness and isolation. Togetherness brings about strength – a promise of love is a right worth fighting for”.
The MSGM brides were definitely more Lolita than Truffaut. They wore tiny briefs under see-through tulle slip dresses, ruffled baby dolls layered over silk camisoles, and inconspicuous bikinis just veiled by a sheer t-shirt. Their trousseau also included boxy white blazers sprouting crystals and wedding bands, girlish smock ruffled dresses, skintight leggings and catsuits with frills and ruches.
