In 1924, Montblanc introduced the Meisterstück, a writing instrument that would become an iconic symbol of luxury and craftsmanship. In celebration of the pen’s centennial, Montblanc has partnered with renowned filmmaker Wes Anderson to create a captivating campaign that pays homage to the Meisterstück’s enduring legacy.

Written and directed by Anderson, the campaign transports viewers to Montblanc’s imaginary headquarters atop the majestic Mont Blanc. Here, an eccentric cast of characters, portrayed by Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman and Anderson himself, guide us through the brand’s history and the Meisterstück’s extraordinary journey.

Anderson’s distinctive visual style, characterized by symmetry, vintage aesthetics and vibrant colors, brings the Montblanc universe to life in an unprecedented way. The film is a sophisticated and witty exploration of the brand’s DNA, with subtle references to its mountainous namesake, the inspirational power of libraries and the magic of the creative process.

At the heart of the story is the Montblanc Meisterstück, with its timeless black cigar shape, three gold rings and hand-crafted gold nib. The characters discuss the qualities that have made this pen a favorite of authors, creatives, and everyday writers for a century. Designed more than 100 years ago for intrepid travelers, the fountain pen remains a symbol of innovation and craftsmanship.

The campaign also showcases Montblanc’s diverse product categories, from watches to leather goods, highlighting the brand’s commitment to luxury and quality across all its offerings. As the characters engage in lively conversation, they remind viewers of the joy and richness that handwriting brings, whether one is writing a diary entry, a letter or a novel.

To bring Anderson’s vision to life, Montblanc collaborated with the filmmaker’s longtime creative partners, including Roman Coppola as co-director and producer, Jeremy Dawson and John Peet as producers, Stephan Gessler as art director and Oscar-winning cinematographer Linus Sandgren.

Accompanying the film is a series of visuals created by Charlie Gray featuring an all-star cast including Rupert Friend, Maude Apatow, Waris Ahluwalia, Lee Jinuk and Jing Boran, further immersing viewers in the reimagined Montblanc universe.

As the Meisterstück enters its second century, Montblanc‘s partnership with Wes Anderson serves as a testament to the pen’s enduring appeal and the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, creativity and storytelling. The campaign invites audiences to rediscover the joy of handwriting and celebrate the Meisterstück’s place in the annals of writing history.
