Missoni‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, presented by Creative director Filippo Grazioli, pays homage to the brand’s vibrant history while injecting a dose of contemporary fun. Stripes, the label’s signature element, take center stage, reinterpreted in innovative ways that blend nostalgia with playful modernity.
Grazioli draws inspiration from the brand’s early days, referencing the iconic Missoni stripes and the first Missoni show venue, a Milanese swimming pool. This influence manifests in playful details like striped swimming caps and a color palette reminiscent of the 1950s, featuring aqua and bold shades like flamingo pink.
The collection is a celebration of texture and volume. Long, skinny coats in stripes drape effortlessly, while dresses are wrapped or knotted, exuding a sense of casual elegance. Bold, statement collars and sweaters crafted from thick loops of yarn add a touch of whimsy and comfort, exemplifying Grazioli’s desire to create “something protective, something soft and nice next to the body, and I really wanted to do it with a sense of humor,” the designer shared.

Playfulness is indeed a defining characteristic of the collection. Models sashay down the runway in a kaleidoscope of colors, from clouds of flamingo pink and white to vibrant, painted-on diagonal stripes. The collection, however, isn’t without its polarizing elements. Some of the thicker yarn creations evoke comparisons to shag carpets and even Muppets, while certain striped coats, with their intricate fringe details, resemble statement furniture pieces.
Grazioli’s playful spirit shines through in this collection, pushing boundaries and reinterpreting Missoni’s legacy with a contemporary twist. While some pieces might not resonate with everyone, they undeniably spark a conversation about the brand’s evolution and its future within the ever-evolving fashion landscape.
