Michael Kors brought resort chic to the city at New York Fashion Week in a versatile collection inspired by his memories and the effortless heyday of New York City in the 1970s when Rudi Gernreich, Halston and Stephen Burrows were ruling the fashion scene by celebrating and freeing the body.
“It’s what made me love American style. Halston, Burrows, and Rudi Gernreich, it was about freeing the body, all in different ways”, Kors said.
“When I go to a resort now where people would have before been totally not dressed, they’re dressed up. When I go to cities now, people are kind of dressed like they’re at a resort when the weather is warm”, he added.
Thus, Kors summed up his Spring/Summer 2023 collection in these words, “Big city polish juxtaposed with relaxed resort glamour”.
Balancing city rigor with relaxed resort allure, Michael Kors brought bright and bold pieces to the runway with hints of red, magenta, lime and sky blue. The clothes celebrated the female body, with sleek jersey dresses, shirts unbuttoned to the navel, metallic gold fringed skirts, and knits and jackets that left the shoulders bare.
