He hosted his collection on the 102nd floor of the building, an Art Deco masterpiece, with a magical view of all of New York and Queens in view.
The 55 look collection was incredibly sexy, and undeniably original.
“I felt like, if we’re going to come back to live shows, where’s the best place to do it? It really felt like this was the best place to do it”, Smith said.
As a New York native, the collection included elements of the ’90s and early 2000s fashion that characterized the hip-hop music scene. Some of the styles showcased channeled the decadent and unique glamour that artists like Lil’ Kim made popular.
“People want to get dressed up. They want to beat their faces. They want to put on heels. They want to go out. That was really the ammunition for building this collection and showcasing it at the top of the Empire State Building, with Moet champagne and New York City lights. The music, the attitude – that’s what I wanted to portray for the Spring/Summer 2022 collection”, Smith affirmed.
