Athleisure and luxury, sportif and French chic. Lacoste is a bit of all of that! So, for the new season – her second collection of the lockdowns, Louise Trotter explored today’s active lifestyle, with a fresh and relevant approach from the house’s archives.
“Capture the active lifestyle that we share today and that blurs between home life, work, and play”, she said. Before adding: “I play with the history and heritage of the brand and bring it to an expression of today. The starting point was how we wear clothes today. We all live a very active lifestyle and there’s a blur between home, work and play. We wanted to try and reflect that in the collection by offering a lot of ease and elegance, but joy as well”.
The backbone of Trotter’s Fall/Winter 2021 offering is Lacoste’s famous piqué cotton unexpectedly reworked here. The material is no longer exclusively used for polo shirts, it was used this season for groovy tracksuits, cardigans, trenches but also for shirts. Some were intarsia’d with crocodile claws, colorful designs, flaming tennis balls and oversize L-shape varsity logo that the designer found in the archives and revisited here with a touch of humor.
All these pieces, Louis Trotter mixed them with others, made from vintage and deadstock Lacoste fabrics, a way of stepping into the current upcycling trend.
