Kenzo and its artistic director Nigo are kicking off the new year 2023 with a new capsule series, the first part of which will be launched during this month.
“Kenzo Pixel” is a deep dive into Nigo’s 70s and 80s teenage years whose major inspiration was drawn from the House’s archives, giving birth to a pixelated rose motif. In a nod to brand founder Kenzo Takada’s passion for flowers, Nigo‘s rose – the flower was originally developed by Takada for a children’s collection – becomes pixelated here, paying homage to the arcade games that young people were so fond of in the 70s and 80s.
Redrawn almost identically to the original in blue, khaki green and red, the pixelated rose is complemented by other classic motifs of the House, such as the tiger, the anchor or the heart, all reinterpreted by Nigo.
For men, the capsule features a zip-up jacket and denim pants set with the blue/gray pixelated rose – the same pattern is seen on a button-down hoodie jacket and denim pants for women – a mottled gray jersey tracksuit with contrasting red stripes and a pixelated rose on the pants, a grey polo shirt with miniature versions of the pixelated rose – this miniature version of the pixelated rose is also seen on a long black knitted cardigan for women – a blue sweater featuring a huge elephant head with “Kenzo Paris” – an off-white version is offered to women – as well as a series of t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies in white, grey and black with the Kenzo logo and pixelated tiger, rose and heart motifs.
