The Kenzo Fall/Winter 2023 collection, designed by Artistic director Nigo, is a fusion of global cultures, eras, and styles.
The collection is a reflection of Nigo’s interest in the intersection of British, American and Japanese street culture, and combines elements from his personal archive with new influences. The show begins with a quartet playing The Beatles, highlighting the collection’s diverse eclecticism.
Nigo also draws inspiration from the 1960s, a significant era for him as he was born in 1970. He incorporates vintage rocker and mod styles from this time into the collection. Additionally, he partners with Hunter to incorporate traditional British country attire and pays homage to the influence of Vivienne Westwood in his career.
The collection features a blend of Kenzo Takada’s 1980s joie de vivre with a conversation between traditional Japanese techniques and American workwear. Archival Kenzo prints are reworked and motifs inspired by Eastern and Western cultures are present.
The materials used include sashiko, a Japanese quilting technique, and wool, jacquards, and fil coupé from Great Britain, Scotland, and Italy, along with various velvets.
