“Are we falling into the screen? Are we becoming our phones?”. These questions about our complex relationship with modern technology, Jonathan Anderson has already asked in his last collection for Loewe. They come up again in his eponymous brand’s collection, inspired by the “parallel world of people trapped in their computer”, according to the show notes.
In stark contrast to last season’s menswear presentation in a Milanese warehouse district, this season Anderson headed to Las Vegas Arcade, the video gambling arcade in the heart of Soho, just next door to his JW Anderson flagship store on Wardour Street.
Presented through a mixed cast, his women’s collection took a playful approach, with a wide range of effortless techniques, from draping and crumpling to knitting and reversing.
Crinkled t-shirt dresses bearing bedazzled prints of Earth, neoprene rompers with tropical beach scenes printed, signature anchor-adorned tops, architectural hoodies in stark white, satin gowns topped with lace…, the designer’s Spring/Summer 2023 showcase was complete with all of Anderson’s iconic silhouettes, and more.
