For Spring/Summer 2023, Jonathan Simkhai‘s strong inspiration came from a singular material: amber. More than a simple gemstone or fossilized resin, amber was for him a representation of duality, which his show notes described as “at-once ancient and futuristic, scientific and spiritual, precious and humble”.
His idea translated into a lineup of shell-like motifs reinterpreted in crochet, beading, and golden jewelry, as well as the softness and lightness of his draping.
Elsewhere, crafting through knits and deconstructive explorations of suiting and trench coats became key ideas for the season, while the season’s prints, created in collaboration with visual artist George Harvey, brought freshness.
