At Jil Sander, eclectic in Lucie and Luke Meier’s vocabulary means freedom and exactitude. It is an invitation to play with archetypes and appreciate the care it takes to produce perfectly executed garments. To look, to touch, and to wear them. To combine and recombine what we wear, with pleasure and with as few preconceptions as possible.
To mirror this intention, to translate into images the main inspiration behind their collection, they have invited Belgian artist Katrien de Blauwer, whose oeuvre seems to originate from the same sensitive source.
Katrien de Blauwer collects, cuts, assembles, and paints found images, colour blocks, brush strokes and body parts in ways that flow like film editing. Here she has deconstructed and recomposed pictures of the Jil Sander’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection taken by British photographer Chris Rhodes, one of Lucie and Luke Meier’s trusted collaborators.
“Photographer without a camera”: de Blauwer turned what already existed into a new narrative, infusing the Meiers’s creations with her unique perspective, creating delicate, intimate images, deepened with textures and changing perspectives, that seem to suggest that we only understand ourselves, our emotions, and our world, through memory, as a sequence of fragments.
